I did not make it to the top of Mt. Everest on my first attempt. But, Mt. Everest is just as much about setbacks as it is about success. Setbacks show us what doesn't work. They are opportunities to reassess and learn. And, they can show us the possibilities.
We all have setbacks. Our ability to maintain our self-confidence is largely determined by our capacity to reframe failure experiences.
The difference between defeat and giving up is in perspective. Defeat is often only a temporary situation. Defeat is an opportunity to learn, so that we can go back and do things differently. Giving up is what makes defeat permanent. When we give up, we never try again.
Are you reframing your setbacks into positive, forward moving experiences?
